Off-Off Broadway Festival Plays Sixteenth Series Review
Most of these plays do not make for incredibly interesting reading. They are sort of frenetic and obvious pieces, but some are good for a few laughs, and a couple are pretty poignant. My favorite was "Goods" by Isidore Elias. It is a hilarious send-up of a meeting between a garment business executive and a salesman, both of them Jewish. The repartee is snappy and superb, as these two hustlers go at it over a shipment of burlap. "The Winning Number" by Sarah Brown is also fine. In it, two wacky older sisters battle it out over a bingo game somewhere in the South. There were also two plays that I thought might be good for teaching to younger folks. In "Uranium" by Pamela Hunt, a lonely girl tries to get her father's attention as he struggles away trying to find uranium out in the desert. In "As Angels Watch", a bourgeois couple meets a blue collar couple for dinner.
