Courting Her Highness: The Story of Queen Anne ReviewThis book is a fitting end to the Plaidy novels about the Stuarts in England. Like a few other of her books this book isn't always 100% concerned with royalty, but unlike those others royalty was intertwined very well into the stories of Sarah Churchill and Abigail Hill.The story starts with Queen Anne being just Princess Anne, Sarah Churchill not yet a duchess and Abigail Hill a nobody. But by the end everyone's changed places and not always for the better.
Plaidy is a great writer and I liked how she wrote the characters for this book. Everyone was true to form and they felt alive. Sarah Churchill is just as overbearing and annoying as has been written and Anne at points lazy, but stubborn as pointed out too. I liked that Plaidy didn't make Abigail Hill some sweet angel, even though she tried to get others to see her as such. No one was static, except for Sarah, but that was her real life personality so no reason to change her.
I enjoyed learning about the reign of Queen Anne. A royal I haven't done much research on. She tried to do so much good for England the best way she knew how. I liked that she wasn't as lazy as she was in the previous books. She had a lot of courage I didn't know was there.
This book also shows a great shift in English politics too. That was very interesting to read about in a non-boring way.
