Sarah Bernhardt, Her Films, Her Recordings ReviewAs a Bernhardt fan, I am thrilled that someone has finally written the definitive story of Sarah, her work on stage, in films, and on recordings. This huge book is packed with many features, a biography, a section devoted to her pioneering efforts in making some of the first recordings with Thomas Edison, and then a thrilling section about her movies. The book is packed (by my count) with 252 photos, candid pictures, illustrations, movie ads, scene stills, a feast for the eyes. the book even has a big portrait gallery with many about 70 rare full-page portraits, pictures that I had never seen. The author has done an admirable job researching this subject (the bibliography alone attests to 11 pages of sources listed). The book also includes fascinating French to English translations of all of Bernhardt's recorded recitations. This book is a page turner. Pulitzer nominated author David W.
