Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten: Raise IQ by up to 30 points and turn on your child's smart genes ReviewI've really enjoyed reading this book, and I've told several other "Mom" friends about it also. The book is very informative and an easy read, I particularly enjoyed the section on diet and keeping your child in a "clean living" environment (as in pesticide and solvent free, etc.). However, several of the things the author (a doctor) suggests are to advanced for the age range he places them in, or are extremely difficult to achieve. The author does a wonderful job explaining how to create/play games with your infant or toddler, but often times the games are simply to abstract for small child or especially a 6-18 month old baby. For example, one of the games suggested consists of flashcards with colored shapes on them to help your child with memory, thus improving math skills. This may be great for an older child, but for an infant? Try giving a teething infant a flashcard and you will quickly see that it goes in their mouth and not into the memory part of their brain as the book implies. As for giving a 16 month old flashcards; unless your child is sedentary, don't expect them to sit down and really attempt to study a card with a triangle on it. The other aspects of the book I found unrealistic came from the diet and vitamin suggestions and the guidelines on certain types of plastics. While the book was excellent at discussing the need for organic, natural, and pesticide free foods, don't expect to follow the doctor's diet list with ease. Any parent knows that things like Kidney Beans and Pumkin Seeds aren't usually baby's favorite meal. Lastly, this books cautions greatly about the hazards of a certain type of plastic (not BPA) that is often found in MOST toys. Is it great to be aware of this type of plastic: YES. Is it easy to avoid this type of plastic or even know if it is your child's toys: NO. Can that scare the hell out of you: YES! Basically, it is great to be aware of the dangers in the environment, but realizing what was out there and how hard it is for me to control was stressful. Regardless, this book is still very informative and I will keep it in my library as long as I needed.Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten: Raise IQ by up to 30 points and turn on your child's smart genes Overview
